TeleChoice Profiles Leading DSL Service Providers and Vendors - 5/14/02
DSL Success Stories Examined in new TeleChoice White Paper
Tulsa, OK (May 14, 2002) - TeleChoice, Inc. today released a new white paper entitle d which profiles a series of service providers and vendors who have defied the conventional wisdom and have established themselves as innovative, aggressive - and in most cases profitable - providers of DSL services and equipment.
The paper profiles five service providers, including a large international PTT (the world's largest deployer of DSL services), a national DSL CLEC, a mid-sized North American incumbent telco, a mid-sized independent DSL ISP, and an independent telco serving a small rural market. The paper also investigates an innovative equipment vendor providing digital video over broadband, a software vendor providing provisioning and service marketing automation, and a content provider offering broadband-enabled online gaming.
"Much of the general business and telecom focused media believe that DSL is destined to be an also-ran in the broadband market," says Claudia Bacco, President of TeleChoice. "These success stories paint a different picture, highlighting companies throughout the DSL food chain that have been among the most innovative and aggressive while at the same time meeting their business and financial goals."
Foremost among the keys to success for these companies has been their support for a range of well-designed and well-marketed value-added services. "Each of these companies is an industry leader within its market segment at offering customers a range of content and services to meet their needs for broadband," notes Bacco, "and each has benefited from the additional revenue these services create."
Another key to success has been a high degree of automation and "mainstreaming" of DSL within these companies' overall business operations. "Reducing initial and ongoing expenses has been an essential factor in these companies' financial success," says Pat Hurley, TeleChoice's DSL Analyst. "Broadband is a key corporate focus and integral to these companies' overall strategies; this focus throughout their organizations has led to increased efficiencies, reduced expenses, and great innovation in their broadband offers."
"TeleChoice's research highlights the benefits of automation in the service provider's network," notes Matt Tormollen, Vice President of Marketing at BroadJump, Inc. "Expanding this automation throughout the provisioning and support processes and into the value-added services arena has helped BroadJump's customers make DSL a profitable and effective service."
"The development of targeted value-added services packages has allowed Speakeasy to grow our business while avoiding commodity pricing and declining margins," says Michael Apgar, CEO of Speakeasy, Inc. "As profiled in TeleChoice's white paper, Speakeasy's service bundles have facilitated our rapid growth while letting us maintain our focus on premium customers."
"As discussed in TeleChoice's paper, VideoTele.com has successfully deployed DSL-based video services in nearly 40 different service providers' networks," says Ajit Pendse, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at VideoTele.com. "As DSL providers face increasing competition from cable MSOs across all aspects of their business, the ability to remain profitable and competitive is imperative. Leveraging their existing infrastructure with DSL to provide the triple play' of voice, video, and data enables service providers to regain market share while realizing increased profits."
